Tim Stonor is an architect and town planner with wide, international experience of complex building and urban masterplanning projects. In 1995, he established the Space Syntax Laboratory at University College London (UCL) and in 1996 set up the consulting firm, Space Syntax Limited, with the aim of building bridges between professional practice and academic research. As Managing Director, Tim oversees the London practice’s consulting activities, chairs the in-house project review process and is responsible for the strategic direction of the business in the UK and overseas.
Tim is a member of the Design Review Panel of the UK Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE). He is also a member of the steering group of the UK National Health Service Design Review Panel and he is a Programme Steering Group member at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Tim trained as an architect at the Bartlett, UCL and at the School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University. He graduated from both with distinction. He joined the RIBA in 1996 and the RTPI in 2005. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL, where he teaches on the Masters programmes in Urban Design and Advanced Architectural Studies. He is also a guest lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, the London School of Economics and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
In 2004, Tim was elected a Fellow of the UK Royal Society of Arts. In 2006 he became a founding member of the UK Academy of Urbanism. He speaks frequently at industry conferences throughout the world and is a regular contributor to television and radio programmes on architecture and design.
