Shinichi

Shinichi Iida is a researcher with architectural background and he joined Space Syntax in 1998 while carrying out doctoral research at the Bartlett, University College London. He has recently been involved in analysing the data the company has collected over time and developing the system which allows the better use of the data for the company's future projects.

At the Bartlett, his research centres on the new theoretical development of the configurational urban model and has developed the extension to the traditional 'axial' urban street network model.

Shinichi obtained BEng in Architecture from the University of Tokyo, Japan, and MSc in Built Environment from the Bartlett, UCL. He also worked as assistant designer at the office of architect Yasutaka Yamasaki in Tokyo and Osaka and involved in the strategic design planning of new theatres in Tome, Miyagi and Fuso, Aichi in Japan before joining Space Syntax. He has developed computer programming skills in his spare time, and he has an extensive experience of programming in several languages which has contributed to the practice of the company from time to time.
