Noah

Noah Raford is an urban planner and the Director of Space Syntax Limited in North America. He graduated from Brown University with a degree in Sociospatial Analysis and Design, then received his masters at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he focuses on the use of scenario planning and systems mapping to aid local governments in climate change management.

Noah has worked extensively in international planning, master planning, and public space design. He regularly participates in a range of master planning and design projects, including the London 2012 Olympics, large scale ‘green urbanism’ housing developments, major commercial and retail developments, public spaces and civic squares, green space strategies, ‘slum’ upgrading, and pedestrian and bicycle planning.

In addition to professional practice Noah also maintains active teaching and research interests. He helped lead Space Syntax’s participation in a European Union funded research initiative on walkable public spaces and has lectured at UCL, UC Berkeley, MIT, Harvard, Brown, University of Connecticut, CU Denver, Oxford Brookes, Roma III, and the Royal Technical University in Stockholm. He regularly presents at conferences such as the Transportation Research Board’s Annual Meeting, Walk21, ProBike/ProWalk, and the Congress for New Urbanism.

He is a member of the American Planning Association, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. His current work focuses on improved decisions support tools for strategic planning under conditions of risk and uncertainty.
