Dr Yang Tao qualified as an architect and urban designer in China. He joined Space Syntax as a Research Consultant in September 2011.

His research interests focus on urban morphology and digital city modelling. He has been involved in several research projects, including “Multi-scale Spatial Planning – a Proof of Concept Study for the Suzhou Region”, led by Prof Bill Hillier, 2008-2009, “City History and Multi-scale Spatial Master-planning – International Research Network”, led by Prof Alan Penn, 2007-2010 and Road Centre Line Modeling conducted by Space Syntax, 2005-2006. He has also participated in several consultancy projects for Space Syntax including Arundel House, the Foresterhill Masterplan and the Seville Masterplan.

Before coming to the UK, Tao worked on a wide range of projects in China, winning national and international prizes. His major projects include the Campus Design of the Fine-Art College of Guangzhou (nationally awarded), the Conceptual Planning & Design of the Beijing Olympic Games Park, the Shenzhen Catic Zone Urban Design project, and the Nanjing Masterplan.
