Policy development

Regeneration thinking, policy and practice throughout the world has been significantly influenced by Space Syntax. In the UK, we have contributed to, and our work is referenced in, significant policy documents including “By Design” and “Safer Places”, the two authoritative UK national government documents on urban practice. These documents build on the recommendations of the Urban Task Force in “Towards an Urban Renaissance” and they have paved the way for the “Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (2004)”. The new Act emphasises a mixed use, spatially based approach to planning, based on an understanding of place at every scale - an approach we firmly support
