Evening seminar: "Slums or emerging economies?"

8th July

This evening seminar took place at Space Syntax's London ofice on Tuesday, 8th July. Dr Kayvan Karimi and Ed Parham of Space Syntax described their experience of applying a new approach to the replanning of informal settlements in
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The approach is focused and incremental, allowing communities to retain the buildings, street systems and social networks that work, while introducing the new infrastructure that will help them to grow.

Kayvan and Ed were joined by Sunil Kumar from the London School of Economics and Tony Lloyd-Jones from the University of Westminster who provided their own perspective on the issues facing urban growth in world cities today.

“Your speakers were excellent and generated discussion until our heads hit the pillow... really well content-ed and presented talks. Your balanced event was very refreshing and challenging, more like a symposium”
